I’m Dr. Joseph Atalla, an engineer and technology executive. For more than 20 years, I’ve built enterprise systems and led technology teams across the public and private sectors. Today, my work spans AI, data, cybersecurity, and cloud technology.

Engineer’s foundation.
Executive perspective.
Research-driven thinking.
01 / ABOUT
My career progressed from programming and systems analysis through software and hardware engineering to CIO, CTO, and technology security leadership. I have led global engineering teams, built countywide justice systems used by thousands, and guided modernization across public and private organizations. I bring that hands-on technical depth to executive work in AI and agentic systems, cybersecurity, cloud, and data analytics—connecting emerging capabilities with practical results.
My grounding in electrical, biomedical, and computer science education lets me engage with the engineering details while leading at the strategic level. I’m driven by the challenge of finding a sound solution, building the right team, and turning complex ideas into useful outcomes. I stay close enough to the technology to ask the right questions and make informed decisions, while giving teams the clarity and support they need to deliver.
02 / EXPERTISE
From enterprise strategy to the details that make a system work.
Leading global engineering and technology teams across product delivery, enterprise modernization, and organizational change.
Building enterprise platforms, cloud solutions, and embedded transaction systems grounded in hands-on engineering experience.
Designing and implementing LLM and agentic AI solutions, alongside data quality, lineage, governance, and analytics capabilities.
Leading security architecture, risk management, incident response, and governance across public-sector and global technology environments.
03 / ACADEMIC PERSPECTIVE
My doctoral research examined how telework intensity and perceived organizational support relate to employee engagement, job satisfaction, performance confidence, and innovation in the U.S. federal workforce.
As an adjunct assistant professor at Georgia Tech, I also supported teaching in artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction. Research and teaching continue to shape how I approach technical and leadership decisions.
Follow my professional work04 / MY STORY
My fascination with technology began with programming, physics, and engineering. I studied computer science and physics, then earned degrees in electrical engineering and biomedical and clinical engineering. That foundation led me into software and hardware design, embedded systems, and the hands-on work of turning ideas into reliable products.
As my career progressed, I took on larger challenges: enterprise platforms, public-sector transformation, global technology teams, cybersecurity, and executive leadership. I returned to formal study for a master’s degree in computer science at Georgia Tech and later earned a PhD in information technology. I also taught artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction as an adjunct assistant professor at Georgia Tech.
At every stage, the same passion has guided me: understand the problem deeply, find a practical solution, and bring people together to make it work.
